Description:

In the manufacturing process of lithium-ion batteries, the uniformity and consistency of the electrode slurry greatly affects the electrochemical performance of the battery. The dispersion system is essentially a thermodynamically unstable system, and it is not easy to ensure the stable and uniform dispersion of the solid phase material in the liquid dispersion medium.

Take the lithium ion battery aqueous negative electrode slurry as an example. It is a multi-element dispersion system in which the dispersed phase is solid phase materials such as graphite and conductive agent, and the dispersion medium is a liquid phase composed of water, CMC and SBR. Graphite is a non-polar substance, it is not easy to absorb water, and it is not easy to disperse in water. Contaminated graphite is easy to re-aggregate after being dispersed in water; the polarity of conductive agent is quite different; while water, CMC and SBR are all polar substances. When preparing the electrode slurry, if the solid components cannot be dispersed very uniformly, the consistency of the electrode slurry will be poor, resulting in unstable electrochemical performance of the prepared battery. At present, the commonly used dispersion method in the preparation process of electrode slurry is to perform simple mechanical stirring, using a stirring blade driven by a motor to stir the electrode slurry evenly. Although this method is very simple and convenient to operate, it is difficult to make the components in the electrode slurry evenly distributed, and the slurry located in the dead corner cannot even be stirred at all, nor can it completely eliminate particle agglomeration.

The ultrasonic dispersion treatment can be combined with the mechanical stirring in the prior art, and the electrode slurry is mechanically stirred and dispersed before or after the ultrasonic dispersion treatment is used. Ultrasonic dispersion treatment has great advantages in eliminating particle agglomeration. Mechanical stirring can achieve a wide range of electrode slurry flow. The combination of the two will make the dispersion effect and efficiency more ideal. The preferred electrode slurry dispersion process is: mechanical stirring before the electrode slurry coating, and then ultrasonic dispersion treatment.

When ultrasonic is used to disperse the electrode slurry, the temperature of the electrode slurry is maintained at 30°C to 40°C. Under this temperature condition, the ultrasonic cavitation effect is better.

Benefits

The beneficial effects of the dispersion method of the electrode slurry of the present invention are:

● The electrode slurry is subjected to ultrasonic dispersion treatment, and the ultrasonic cavitation effect can be used to make the electrode slurry eliminate particle agglomeration and uniformly disperse;

● There is no dead corner of dispersion with ultrasonic dispersion treatment.

● After the electrode slurry is coated with ultrasonic dispersion treatment, the obtained coating has better uniformity, which is beneficial to improve the electrochemical performance of the battery.
